Description
Rapidly identify Staphylococcus aureus and distinguish from other staphylococci by detecting clumping factor and protein A using the Thermo Scientific™ BactiStaph™ Latex Agglutination Test Kit.
Use this rapid test utilizing latex particles which are capable of detecting both clumping factor and protein A simultaneously. Agglutination of white latex particles is visible to the unaided eye within 60 seconds and represents a positive reaction.Use with suspected S. aureus colonies. Prior to testing, suspect colonies should be Gram stained and a catalase test performed to verify that they are Staphylococcus.
Although Staphylococci are commonly found on the skin and in mucous membranes, they have been associated with many human and animal infections. S.aureus and other coagulase-positive Staphylococci have been identified as a cause of suppurative infections, food poisoning and toxic shock syndrome and have been isolated from nearly all anatomical sites.
