Zeolite Y is a useful metal aluminum silicate for proteomics research. It is used as a cracking catalyst in petroleum refinery catalytic cracking units to convert high-boiling fractions of petroleum crude to more valuable gasoline, diesel and other products. It is also used as a molecular sieve and as an adsorbent of a wide variety of cations, such as Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+ and others. Zeolite is used in the development of a variety of bioreactor devices and in the determination of serum triglycerides.
